I have an essay for my class called The Literature of the Bible that are due on Friday May 15th, 2020.
The first formal essay is a Textual Analysis, about the adventures of Samson in the book of Judges prepare a formal analytical essay that discusses what you believe to be the theme of the story, making use of methods of literary analysis and some particular theoretical approach. In other words, consider what you think the story means, by analyzing Narrative Voice (and/or layers of narrative), Plot, Setting, Character, Image, or Diction, but also in reference to one key question, such as
Do the actions and character development of the protagonist fit the scholarly definitions of a hero? Explain how and why using the analysis of quoted examples from the text. Why is the characters heroism so important to the storys theme?
How does the concept of catharsis function within this narrative? Does it? Explain how (or why it doesnt) using the analysis of quoted examples from the text. Why is the cathartic element so important to the storys theme?
How does the text represent psychological motivators, or emotional states, as a factor in its theme? What internal factors seem to motivate the protagonists actions and the outcome of the tales plot? Why is this issue important to the storys theme?
How does the text represent a particular historical or social situation as a factor in its theme? Why is this issue important to the storys theme?
