Over the last few weeks we’ve sought to breakdown and understand the key concepts of Mircea Eliade’s work on the “sacred” and “profane”. In his discussions about sacred space, Eliade notes the importance of the “Axis Mundi”. For this forum, (1) briefly explain what Eliade means by this term and then (2) watch “The Hopi Origin Story” and discuss ways Eliade’s ideas of the axis mundi is related to their myth.
