                                    Level 3

Your draft will receive 0-10 points, and I will provide specific feedback on how to strengthen the paper. Points for drafts of papers 1-3 comprise 5% of your final course grade.

Your revision will receive 0-100 points, based on a rubric. The grade on the revision of paper 1 is worth 10% of your final course grade.

Content: Having read Everything, Everything, determine and state in your own words what you believe this young adult novel is saying (i.e., the theme). Make a case using evidence from the text, and evaluate whether the author has effectively portrayed this theme to the intended audience of the story. I encourage you to explore the following questions:

What aspects, if any, of this theme are universal? What aspects are more unusual?
What elements of the story (e.g., plot events, character actions, genre, use of illustration, structure of the book) contribute to the shaping of this theme?
What elements of the story, if any, detract from this theme?
Does this theme highlight the patients perspective or someone elses (e.g., the caregivers) perspective?
What other worksyoung adult or otherwisedemonstrate a similar theme?
Your paper should be thesis-driven and have focused paragraphs (one topic per paragraph) that flow and support the thesis. Create an intriguing introduction and a conclusion that leaves the reader thinking.
