In today’s reading, Emily Wilson, a translator of The Odyssey by Homer, discusses how, though it be quite an old story, The Odyssey has many deeply relevant themes and concerns.
Sometimes, we feel that our fears, concerns, joys, and bores are all very modern. However, if we have learned anything from some of the older texts this semester, that is not the case.
Choose one theme from a text we have read this semester that is over 30 years old. Discuss how this theme you’ve chosen is relatable to modern audiences and why. Secondly, why do you think these texts are read and re-read across the ages? Is it their “relatability,” or something quite different?
Discuss your answer in 1-2 thoughtful paragraphs. This will be for a grade in “Homework, etc.”
